Interest in spirituality among young people is growing worldwide: this is one of the findings of a survey conducted by the Research Group Footprints Research Group. Young People: Expectations, Ideals, Beliefsof the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, in collaboration with the Spanish polling institute GAD3, which was presented on February 29, 2024, at 10:45 am at the University (Aula Álvaro del Portillo).

The analysis took place during November and December 2023 and was conducted in 8 countries: Argentina, Brazil, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, the Philippines, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The sample consists of 4,889 young people aged between 18 and 29 years old.

The survey is part of an international research project involving 8 universities (Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, Universidad Panamericana Mexico, Catholic University of Buenos Aires, University of Navarra in Spain, Strathmore University of Kenya, Saint Mary University of London, University of Asia and the Pacific from the Philippines and The State University of Campinas, Brazil – UNICAMP). Together, they are part of the Research Group Footprints:Young People: Expectations, Ideals, Beliefs of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross.

On the 29th February event, it was presented data of interest related to the state of religiosity and the expression of faith and values of young people, as well as the youth’s perspective on the dynamics of war in the world, perception of the death penalty and political corruption, and views on the Church as an institution.

Footprints

Footprints. Young People: Expectations, Ideals, Beliefs is an international and interdisciplinary research group of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, initiated in 2022, aimed at continuously listening to young people to better understand their values, expectations, and hopes through surveys and focus groups. The first phase of listening was dedicated to religion, faith, and values. Subsequent surveys on work and relationships are planned.
